Does your teenager Suffer from Depression, or are they Empathic?

I know...I know... to some of you who aren't quite sure what I am talking about or why I am brining it up again, this may seem a bit frivolous. But if you know me closely you know that everything I have done my entire life has revolved around managing the the boatloads of internal information that I receive every second and how to process this information and lead a healthy, happy and balanced life. To understand why this is such an ordeal and why sharing this information is vital to fulfilling my lifes purpose I should tell you a bit about my childhood.

I spent many years, in fact since age 11, like many young empaths; overly sensitive, afraid of everything and very depressed. Some of the symptoms I had and symptoms that your teen may be exhibiting are: being withdrawn, quiet, sullen, wanting to spend all of their time alone, listening to depressing music, wearing dark clothing, an obsession with tragedy or focus on pessimistic. How can an 11 year old be depresssed you ask? Well, when you are feeling the saddness and regret of all of those around you and have such empathy for the less fortunate of the world it can become to heavy to bear, especially when one is too young to understand that these feelings and thoughts are not personal ( meaning they are not your own) This small peice of information could be enough to save a suffering teanager or a new mom struggling with post partum depression.

I spent over 10 years in therapy only to find out that I was picking up on the thoughts and feelings of those around me most notably my parents ( who were very depressed people) don't get me wrong, therapy was helpful, if not for that realization alone BUT--- the informaton that blew me away and really transformed my life did not come until I began learning some amazing healing techniquesa while training to become a healer and here are some of them:

1) Meditating every day

2) Managing my time with others (choosing to be around others who are positive)

3) Detoxing and cleansing on a regular basis, this may not make sense but the more we clear our bodies the more mental space there is. I know you writers and artists outthere can understand this.

4) Movement like Yoga, 5 Rites, Dancing, Walking daily

5) Daily Self-healing rituals

6) Purposeful writing

7) Being around other empaths who have learned to use their sensitivities to enhance their careers and their lives.
